The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced that it will hold its party nominations for the upcoming by-elections on September 20, 2025.
In a notice issued on Thursday, the party’s National Elections Board stated that the exercise will cover vacant seats in the National Assembly, the Senate, and various County Assembly wards across the country.
The registration period for aspirants will open on August 14, 2025, and close on September 5, 2025, at 5:00 pm. All interested candidates are required to register through the party’s online portal at www.uda.ke.
Nomination fees will vary depending on the position and the category of the applicant. Male aspirants for the Member of County Assembly (MCA) post will pay Sh50,000, while women, youth, and persons with disabilities will pay Sh25,000. For the Member of National Assembly and Senate positions, male aspirants will pay Sh250,000, while women, youth, and persons with disabilities will pay Sh125,000.
The announcement comes just a week after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) confirmed that all by-elections will take place on November 27, 2025.
According to the IEBC, gazettement for 16 ward by-elections was completed on August 8, 2025, alongside the appointment of Returning and Deputy Returning Officers. These wards include Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Chemundu/Kapng’etuny (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), Kariobangi North (Nairobi), Kisa East (Kakamega), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Narok Town (Narok), Purko (Kajiado), Tembelio (Uasin Gishu), Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, and Ekerenyo (Nyamira), as well as Lake Zone and Nanaam (Turkana).
A second gazette notice, set for publication on August 11, 2025, will cover by-elections for the Member of Senate in Baringo County, Members of the National Assembly for Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja constituencies, and the MCA seat for Kabuchai/Chwele Ward in Bungoma County.
The IEBC has directed all political parties intending to participate in the by-elections to submit the names and specimen signatures of their authorised officials, as well as the list of contestants, by September 17, 2025. Independent candidates must also submit their names and symbols by the same deadline.
