Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a stern warning to Jubilee Party leaders, urging them to refrain from attacking Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other politicians. Speaking in Murang’a during a Jubilee grassroots meeting on Friday, Uhuru expressed disappointment over what he described as persistent divisive politics by some party members.
While addressing party members, Uhuru emphasized the need for respectful political engagement, particularly on social media. “At times, I’m saddened to see people on social media who pretend to defend the party by insulting Rigathi Gachagua and others. I don’t want that nonsense at my party. People should do their politics respectfully,” he said.
The former Head of State warned that anyone continuing with abusive politics would face consequences. “Before I hand over this party, if they continue doing so, I will not hesitate to call them out and send them packing. I don’t want to hear that ever again,” Uhuru added.
Uhuru specifically addressed Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, cautioning him against leading attacks on Gachagua. He challenged party leaders to focus on promoting the party manifesto and mission to attract more members, rather than spending time on social media attacks.
During the meeting, Uhuru also expressed support for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, praising his record and achievements during Uhuru’s administration. He dismissed suggestions that his endorsement was personal, describing Matiang’i as a high achiever with proven milestones.
Uhuru’s remarks follow criticisms from Kioni, who last month accused Gachagua of allegedly bullying Matiang’i and secretly collaborating with President William Ruto’s administration ahead of the 2027 elections, labeling him a “mole” in the opposition.
By calling for unity and respectful politics, Uhuru aims to steer Jubilee leaders away from internal conflicts and ensure the party remains focused on its goals and manifesto.
