President William Ruto has said that State House belongs to every Kenyan. Speaking on Friday, September 19, 2025, he dismissed critics who claim that opening it to the public lowers its dignity.
The event was held at State House, Nairobi, during the launch of the SHA Sponsorship Program. Thousands of Kenyans attended, many dressed in SHA-branded T-shirts.
State House is the People’s Home
Ruto told the crowd that no one should stop citizens from visiting State House.
“Mko na ruhusa ya kukuja hapa kwa sababu makao haya, ni makao ya wananchi wa taifa la Kenya,” he said.
He added that he was elected by the people and has decided to make the residence open to all.
Criticism From Opponents
Some critics argue that State House is losing its respect by hosting ordinary citizens. Ruto dismissed them, saying they did not understand the spiritual meaning of leadership.
Quoting Psalms 113, he said his mission is to uplift the dignity of Kenyans.
“Wale wanalalamika ya kwamba makao haya yamekua ya watu leja leja, mimi nataka niwajuze waelewe ya kwamba hawaelewi maana ya Biblia Zaburi 113,” he added.
Launch of a Healthcare Program
The President used the event to unveil the SHA Sponsorship Program. The program will support critical treatments such as:
- Kidney transplants
- Cancer care
- Accident-related surgeries
He said the program is part of his plan to make healthcare affordable and accessible.
A Message of Inclusivity
Analysts say Ruto’s message was aimed at countering opposition claims. They note that the President wants to show his administration is close to the people.
By declaring State House “the people’s house,” Ruto set a new tone of inclusivity in governance. For many Kenyans in attendance, the message was clear: leadership belongs to the people.
