Vincent Kiplimo Rutto, the son of the late Chemundu/Kapng’etuny Ward MCA Julius Kipruto Keter, has been officially declared the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) flagbearer in the upcoming by-election. Rutto clinched victory in the party’s primaries held at Chemundu Primary School, securing 3,399 votes to outshine five other contestants.
His closest challenger, former ward representative Robert Kipchirchir Kirwa, managed 1,432 votes. The other aspirants included Julius Kibet Kemboi (310), Ali Kiplagat Mutai (158), Rasheed Nuh (120), and Felix Kipkosgei Kirwa (111).
UDA Returning Officer Regina Wanjiru Katambi announced the results, declaring Rutto the party’s choice to defend the seat once held by his father. The November 27, 2025, by-election is expected to be a highly contested race.
Rutto Promises to Continue His Father’s Legacy
In his acceptance speech, Rutto dedicated his victory to the people of Chemundu/Kapng’etuny Ward and pledged to continue with his late father’s development agenda.
“We all won. UDA has won,” he remarked, urging his competitors to unite behind him for the larger good of the ward and the party.
The event was marked by emotional celebrations, especially from his mother, Purity Keter, who shed tears of joy as she thanked residents for entrusting her son with the mandate. “God has made it,” she said, expressing faith in Rutto’s ability to deliver on the ward’s priorities.
Electronic Voting Lauded
Nandi Woman Representative Cynthia Muge hailed UDA’s adoption of electronic voting gadgets in the primaries, calling it a game-changer in boosting transparency and credibility.
“This is a litmus test for the upcoming elections,” she said, commending the party leadership under President William Ruto.
With the UDA ticket secured, Rutto now turns his focus to the November by-election, where he will seek to transform the party’s endorsement into a full mandate from the people of Chemundu/Kapng’etuny Ward.
