City lawyer Wahome Thuku has moved quickly to dismiss circulating claims that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is joining President William Ruto’s camp ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Through his Facebook handle on Friday, November 14, 2025, Thuku said he held a joint phone call with lawyer Ndegwa Njiru and Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, a close ally of Kalonzo Musyoka.
According to Thuku, Maanzo clarified that his recent attendance at a public rally organized by President Ruto in Wote town, Makueni County, was purely to address local residents’ issues and not a political endorsement.
“The Senator acknowledged that at no point did he or Governor Mutula Kilonzo urge the people to support the current regime in 2027,” Thuku stated. He added that Maanzo attended the rally after local residents specifically invited him to speak on certain matters.
The lawyer emphasized that the phone call concluded with a clear understanding: the Makueni community remains committed to sending Kasongo (Ruto) home one way.
Earlier, Senator Maanzo himself addressed speculation about his political loyalties on social media, noting that promises made by Ruto in Ukambani are already reflected in the national budget, and denying claims that he is shifting allegiance.
“How will Ruto force us to join the government? None of the promises he made for Ukambani, and which he said would be completed by May, are special allocations beyond the budget. These are blatant lies,” Maanzo said on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Thuku’s intervention appears aimed at quelling rumors that Maanzo is moving from Wiper to Ruto’s camp, underscoring that his presence at the Wote rally was strictly to interact with constituents.
The clarification comes as political tensions in Ukambani rise ahead of the 2027 elections. President Ruto continues his tour of the region, with his third day of engagements in Ukambani on Friday, including Machakos County.
Makueni leaders have thus sought to reassure the public that their political stance remains aligned with Kalonzo Musyoka and the Wiper Party.
