Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has called for mutual respect among elected leaders to avoid unnecessary political conflicts, cautioning rivals against undermining her leadership as she plans for the region’s political future.
Speaking during a public event, Waiguru strongly rebuked attempts by some politicians to discredit her while pursuing political mileage. She warned that her silence should not be mistaken for weakness, asserting that she remains an influential figure in the region’s political arena.
“I will not allow anyone to step on me. I may be silent, but that should not be misconstrued. We are still on the drawing board, consulting with like-minded leaders and planning a political future for the people of Kirinyaga and the wider Mt Kenya region,” Waiguru declared.
She urged the people of Kirinyaga to remain calm, emphasizing that the county must have representation at the national level where key development decisions are made. “Kirinyaga must be on the national cake-sharing table. We cannot get the development we desire without being part of the decision-making process,” she stated.
Waiguru also took a swipe at leaders who engage in what she termed as “cheap politics,” urging them to concentrate on delivering their promises to the electorate instead of launching political attacks. “Stop going around lying to the people. Our people are informed and cannot be deceived. During the last election, some politicians were so confident but were shocked by the outcome—some even ended up in hospital,” she noted.
As political temperatures begin to rise ahead of the 2027 general election, the governor warned her critics not to write her off. She maintained that her development record speaks for itself and that she will continue serving the people diligently until the end of her term.
“Those who think I will be irrelevant in 2027 are in for a shock. Kirinyaga has its own leaders and we are not going anywhere,” Waiguru affirmed.
Her remarks come amid growing political activity in Mt Kenya, with leaders positioning themselves for future alignments and influence in the national political landscape.
