Former Roots Party deputy leader Justina Wamae has warned Kenyans of a potential political shock ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Wamae cautioned that the current trend of slogan-driven politics could leave the country disappointed and economically stagnant.
Focus on Slogans Over Substance
In a post on X, Wamae criticized the growing fixation on political slogans. She highlighted the “wantam” narrative, linked to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and a one-term presidency idea, and the “tutam” push, associated with President William Ruto and the two-term agenda.
“Fellow Kenyans, wantam is good because tutam is bad… I agree tutam is very bad for the country, but we must go beyond,” Wamae wrote.
Warning of Empty Promises
Wamae stressed that slogans cannot replace action. She warned that Kenyans risk focusing on political rhetoric while ignoring issues that directly affect their lives, such as economic empowerment, job creation, and wealth generation.
“Politics without substance will lead to another cycle of disappointment. By October 2027, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. The only explanation given will be that we inherited a dilapidated economy,” she added.
Call for Action
Wamae urged citizens to demand leaders who prioritize real solutions over catchy phrases. She emphasized that policies should focus on improving livelihoods and creating opportunities rather than just political narratives.
Her warning comes as Kenyan politics increasingly favors personalities and slogans over concrete development plans. She insists that Kenyans must look beyond rhetoric and hold leaders accountable for delivering measurable results.
