Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has strongly criticised National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, accusing him of lowering the dignity of Parliament by openly endorsing President William Ruto’s push for a second term.
Speaking on Saturday, October 4, 2025, during a bullfighting event in Mihati, Malava Constituency, Wamalwa claimed Wetang’ula had compromised his role as a neutral referee in parliamentary affairs. He argued that by chanting the ‘two-term’ slogan alongside Ruto’s allies, Wetang’ula had abandoned impartiality.
“You have degraded the Parliament of Kenya. You have lowered the dignity of the House,” Wamalwa said. “As a referee, you are supposed to remain neutral, manage the game fairly, and not jump with Farouk Kibet chanting ‘two-term, two-term.’”
Wamalwa accused the Speaker of being manipulated by political operatives such as Farouk Kibet, saying this undermines the independence of elected leaders. “Wetang’ula has been turned into a youth winger, following orders to go to Malava, Bungoma, then Busia. Leaders we elect should serve the people, not be guided by operatives,” he added.
He also took a swipe at Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, alleging that he was part of the schemes undermining the autonomy of Parliament and the dignity of elected representatives.
Wamalwa, who was accompanied by Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Chair Seth Panyako, drummed up support for Panyako in the upcoming Malava parliamentary race. He expressed confidence that Panyako would defeat David Ndakwa in the UDA primaries slated for November 27.
Framing the contest as a battle for integrity, Wamalwa urged residents to use the election as an opportunity to reclaim dignity in leadership and reject leaders who place political expediency over institutional independence.
