Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, declaring that Kenyans are fed up with his leadership and are counting down to the end of his tenure. Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Wamuchomba accused the Kenya Kwanza government of widespread corruption, mismanagement, and authoritarianism, saying Ruto’s days in office are numbered.
“We are done with President Ruto,” she said. “We are just allowing him to pack slowly and leave honourably through the constitution.”
Wamuchomba’s remarks come amid a wave of nationwide discontent fueled by a high cost of living, joblessness, and a government crackdown on protests. The legislator accused Ruto’s administration of looting public funds and demanded that the stolen money be returned before the next general election.
“The solution between now and 2027 is for William Ruto to return the money that his government has looted,” she stated. “He should allow Parliament to fund independent bodies that his government has defunded.”
Wamuchomba cited key institutions such as the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), the Ministry of Health, and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), all of which she said have suffered from budget cuts under Ruto’s leadership. She called on the President to act swiftly to restore public confidence.
“He has two years to calm the anger of young people and pensioners, whose money has also been slashed. We are giving him two years to pack slowly,” she added.
The MP also took issue with Ruto’s recent rhetoric targeting protesters. She condemned his directive to police to shoot and disable demonstrators, urging him to speak with dignity befitting the presidency.
“You are not a village elder. You are the President of the Republic of Kenya. You must speak with respect,” she said.
In response to protests, Ruto recently warned those attempting to use violence to unseat his government that leadership change would only happen through the ballot in 2027.
“This is a democratic nation,” Ruto said. “Leadership will not change through violence.”
