Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has officially rejoined former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political camp, putting to rest months of speculation surrounding her political allegiance. Her return was marked by a high-profile appearance alongside Gachagua on Thursday, June 12, during a tour of Kiambu County, including her own Githunguri Constituency.
The duo first met at the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) offices in Nairobi earlier that day, where they reportedly held strategic discussions. Wamuchomba’s presence alongside Gachagua in public for the first time in over six months signals a renewed partnership ahead of the 2027 general election.
Addressing a charged crowd in Githunguri town, Wamuchomba made a bold political declaration, rallying her constituents to reject President William Ruto’s bid for a second term. “For those who were saying that I have left this camp, now they can see for themselves, I am here calling for one term,” she told supporters.
Her reappearance comes after a period of political uncertainty, during which she criticized Gachagua’s leadership style and appeared to distance herself from his camp. Her recent meeting with former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had sparked further speculation of a potential defection.
In March, Wamuchomba had publicly urged Gachagua to adopt a more inclusive national outlook if he intends to position himself as a viable presidential contender. “He must also dissociate himself from his campaigns with the mountain connotation,” she said in an NTV interview. “Rigathi needs to realise that he has the mountain with him—he doesn’t need to keep punching the same message.”
She emphasized the need for Gachagua to expand his political messaging beyond the Mt. Kenya region and reach out to marginalized communities across the country.
By reuniting with Gachagua, Wamuchomba has reinforced her political stance while pushing for reforms within the camp. Her return is likely to boost Gachagua’s efforts to consolidate Mt. Kenya support as political formations begin to take shape ahead of 2027.
