Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi has revealed that residents of Wamunyoro, the home village of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, are firmly supporting President William Ruto’s leadership.
Speaking on September 6, 2025, during the launch of a water project expected to benefit 600 households, Wamumbi disclosed that locals have asked him to ensure that President Ruto visits the village during his planned stop at the Sagana State Lodge.
“Wamunyoro people have told me they are supporting President William Ruto, and they have asked me to make sure he visits this village when he comes to Sagana State Lodge,” Wamumbi said.
The lawmaker also dismissed claims that villages across Mount Kenya lack employment opportunities, describing such statements as propaganda from those who failed in office. He pointed out ongoing development initiatives in Wamunyoro, emphasizing the importance of the recently distributed water pipes that will connect residents to free and clean water.
“When you hear people speaking on TV that there is no work in these villages of Mount Kenya, they are liars. This village of Wamunyoro has no water, but we have distributed pipes today, and these people are going to be connected to clean water for their use,” Wamumbi noted.
The MP urged residents to focus on development rather than divisive politics, stressing that Mount Kenya Central remains a priority on the government’s agenda.
On the opposition’s unity, Wamumbi expressed skepticism, noting that former Deputy President Gachagua’s claims do not match reality. He cited Cleophas Malala’s opposition to the appointment of the opposition’s spokesperson as proof of disunity.
“I do not think there is a real opposition because key leaders like Kalonzo Musyoka and Matiang’i cannot mobilize even small gatherings consistently,” he added.
Wamumbi’s remarks highlight both local support for President Ruto and ongoing development efforts in Wamunyoro, as the Kenya Kwanza administration continues implementing projects aimed at improving residents’ livelihoods.
