Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has said that Kenya’s political landscape could undergo a dramatic shift if President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga join forces in the 2027 elections.
Speaking in Kisumu on Friday during the launch of the Sigand Nyinam Economic Empowerment Program, Wanga declared that such a ticket would be unstoppable.
“They will be shocked… the dust that opposition leaders will face is one they have never seen before,” she told the crowd, insisting that doubters would soon realize the power of the alliance.
The potential partnership between Ruto and Raila was born out of the Gen Z protests, which pushed both leaders to forge a working relationship. What began as a response to youth unrest has now developed into a sophisticated political machinery that could determine the country’s next presidential outcome.
Wanga, a strong ally of Raila, defended President Ruto’s track record amid accusations that he has failed to deliver on his promises. She said programs like the Sigand Nyinam initiative demonstrate the President’s commitment.
“This program is proof. Contrary to claims from the opposition, the President has been faithful to his commitments to Kenyans,” she added.
The Sigand Nyinam project, spearheaded by President Ruto, Raila, and Mama Ida Odinga through the Min Piny Canon Foundation, aims to empower more than 8,000 women across Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, and Migori. Women’s groups will receive financial and technical support to start or expand businesses, fostering sustainable livelihoods and community growth.
“This is a direct investment in the incredible economic power of our women,” Wanga said.
The Kisumu event brought together a strong line-up of leaders, including Kisumu Woman Rep Ruth Odinga, MP Rosa Buyu, Senator Catherine Mumma, Minority Whip Millie Mabona, and several county legislators, underlining both the political and social weight of the program.
