Former Gatundu North Member of Parliament Wanjiku Kibe has urged the Jubilee Party to settle on former Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its presidential flagbearer ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Friday, September 26, 2025, during the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference at Nairobi’s Ngong Racecourse, Kibe said many Kenyans yearn for a Matiang’i presidency because of his proven record in government.
“Matiang’i is a Jubilee Party member, and he is attending the event as a member. We as Jubilee—or in my opinion, I would be happy if Matiang’i becomes the Jubilee Party flagbearer ahead of the 2027 poll. This is a person we have seen working,” she told delegates.
Kibe emphasized that Kenyans are desperate for transparent and accountable leadership, qualities she believes Matiang’i embodies.
“In Kenya, where we are currently, we are in need of a leader who can bring real transformation which Kenyans can see and believe in,” she said.
Track Record Under Uhuru Kenyatta
Kibe pointed to Matiang’i’s years in government under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, highlighting his efficiency and ability to deliver results. She cited the timely disbursement of capitation funds to schools as an example of his no-nonsense management style.
“For instance, if you are told that tomorrow the government will send capitation money to schools, tomorrow you can confirm it. That is the opposite of what we are seeing currently,” she remarked.
According to Kibe, Matiang’i’s legacy in public service remains visible, and many Kenyans would like to see him replicate that performance at the national level.
“Fred Matiang’i’s work when he served under His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta can be seen. And I think the majority of people want it that way,” she added.
As Jubilee charts its path toward the 2027 polls, Kibe’s remarks add to growing speculation about Matiang’i’s possible comeback to frontline politics.
