A chilling wave of violence has rocked several counties in Kenya, with police now investigating multiple gruesome murders and mob lynching incidents reported in recent days.
In Siaya County, detectives are scrambling to identify a mutilated body found dumped in different locations within Gem Constituency. Police said body parts including hands, legs, and a torso were discovered separately across Marenyo village. The dismembered remains were located between July 4 and 5, with hands recovered near Sagam shopping centre, a leg behind a house in Kachola village, and the torso near a pit latrine in Ahono Kanyasembe. Authorities said the body was so badly mutilated that they could not immediately determine the gender of the victim. The remains have been moved to the mortuary for DNA testing.
Elsewhere in Katito, Kisumu County, the body of a woman, identified as Rose Atieno, was found dumped by the roadside. The naked body bore a deep head wound and showed signs of a violent struggle. Police believe she was murdered elsewhere and dumped at the scene. A man suspected of battering her was arrested and is aiding in investigations.
In Embu County’s Ishiara area, another suspected murder has left the community in shock. The body of 56-year-old Nyaga Mukundi was found lying on the roadside with blood oozing from his mouth. Investigators have yet to determine the motive behind the killing.
Meanwhile, in Athi River, Machakos County, a suspected thief met a brutal end after being lynched by an irate mob. Mutuku Musyoki was allegedly caught stealing iron sheets and was stoned and set ablaze. His charred body was later found by police. Authorities have condemned the rise in mob justice, warning the public against taking the law into their own hands.
“Some of the victims of mob lynching are framed and murdered, which is a criminal offense,” police said, urging citizens to hand over suspects to law enforcement agencies.
All the bodies have been moved to various mortuaries for autopsies as investigations continue. The surge in violent deaths has raised concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of the justice system.
