National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has urged the Mulembe nation to unite behind President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, citing the administration’s commitment to equitable development and inclusive governance.
Speaking during a women empowerment campaign at Posta Grounds in Kanduyi constituency, Bungoma County, Wetang’ula commended Ruto’s leadership, noting that the Kenya Kwanza government had revived stalled projects and distributed resources fairly across the country. “Dr William Ruto has ensured equitable distribution of national resources, including revamping stalled projects such as roads,” he stated.
Wetang’ula highlighted key developments in Bungoma under Ruto’s tenure, including the establishment of a passport center, construction of the Masinde Muliro International Stadium, and the elevation of Kisiwa and Sang’alo polytechnics to national institutions. He also revealed plans to upgrade the Bungoma County Referral Hospital to Level Six status, a project supported by an Sh8 billion grant from the African Development Bank.
On agriculture, the Speaker defended the government’s proposal to lease the struggling Nzoia Sugar Factory, arguing it would enhance efficiency and guarantee prompt payments to farmers. He criticised unnamed political figures for opposing the initiative, accusing them of using the sector’s decline to boost their political profiles.
Wetang’ula further praised the Ruto administration’s subsidised fertiliser programme, crediting it for a sharp rise in maize production from 35 million bags in 2024 to a projected 185 million bags in 2025. He also announced an allocation of Sh450 million for the Limuru-Malaba dual carriageway, expected to enhance transport and trade.
He condemned recent remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua discouraging diaspora remittances, emphasising that such funds support families and boost the country’s foreign reserves. “That money stabilises our economy and supports thousands of households,” he said.
Urging patience and unity, Wetang’ula called on Kenyans to give Ruto more time to deliver on his promises and asked the Mulembe nation to stand firm in supporting the President’s 2027 re-election.
