National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on Rift Valley residents to throw their full support behind President William Ruto as he seeks a second term in 2027. Speaking during a fundraiser at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Kapsabet, Wetang’ula argued that Ruto’s performance in office has already outshone that of his predecessors.
“As residents of Rift Valley, we are preaching to the converted. You do not need to be mobilised or coerced to support your son for a second term because you know the direction the country is taking,” Wetangula said.
The Speaker dismissed the president’s critics, branding them “self-seeking characters without an agenda.” Drawing a parallel with the late Kenneth Matiba’s unrelenting but unsuccessful calls for President Daniel arap Moi’s resignation in Parliament, Wetang’ula urged Ruto to ignore dissent.
“We have told the President to ignore such noises the way a cow ignores the croaking of frogs and continues to drink water. He should focus on delivering for Kenyans, because come elections, the people will judge him fairly,” he remarked.
Wetang’ula insisted that ordinary citizens could already feel the progress made in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic reforms under Ruto’s administration.
His sentiments were strongly backed by Nandi Governor Stephen Sang’, who said that Ruto’s performance in just two years surpassed expectations. Sang’ urged Kenyans to adopt a fairer lens when assessing the head of state’s achievements.
“People are unfairly asking why the President has not achieved in two years what Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta or Mr. Mwai Kibaki achieved in their ninth and tenth years in office. If you compare Dr. Ruto’s two years with their first two years, you will find that he has exceeded expectations,” Sang’ argued.
According to the governor, Ruto’s potential track record over ten years should form the basis of his eligibility for re-election. He emphasized that continuity would be crucial for transforming Kenya’s economy.
President Ruto, who has faced mounting opposition pressure, is already gearing up for an early political battle ahead of the 2027 General Election.
