Lawyer and political commentator Willis Otieno has criticized politicians he accuses of feigning grief following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In a post on his official X account on Monday, November 10, 2025, Otieno argued that Raila Odinga was never “at war with illusions” but rather fought against the same politicians now showcasing fake sorrow before the cameras.
“Raila was never at war with illusions; he was fighting the same political animals now polishing their fake tears before cameras,” Otieno wrote.
The lawyer recalled how Raila Odinga consistently fought for the people, challenging greed, theft, institutional rot, and the arrogance that he said turned government into a “feeding trough for elites.” He noted that Raila’s efforts often put him at odds with powerful politicians who sought to silence his influence.
Otieno further highlighted the hypocrisy he perceives in those politicians now mourning Raila, pointing out that the same police tactics used against young protestors today were first tested on Raila’s supporters. “Those police trucks brutalizing Gen Z today were bought to silence Raila. Those bullets tearing through young protestors were first tested on his supporters,” he said.
Raila Odinga’s legacy continues to be celebrated by other leaders, including Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka. During a visit to Raila’s grave at Opoda Farm on Thursday, November 6, 2025, Kalonzo said Raila inspired a new generation of young Kenyans committed to justice and democracy.
“Raila Odinga will be more powerful in death than when he was alive because he inspired the young Kenyans; he inspired Gen Z,” Kalonzo said. He recalled how, in 2024, a young girl encouraged Raila to rest, saying, “Baba, you have done enough; now achia sisi hii kazi,” motivating a wave of youth-led activism.
Willis Otieno’s remarks underscore Raila Odinga’s enduring influence, highlighting his lifelong battle against corruption and his role in empowering the next generation of Kenyan leaders.
