East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga has expressed deep appreciation to Congolese music legend Fally Ipupa for his touching musical tribute in memory of her late father, Raila Odinga.
In a message shared on her social media platforms, Winnie thanked Ipupa for standing in solidarity with the Odinga family and the people of Kenya during a time of immense loss.
“I say thank you for standing with us Fally Ipupa,” she wrote.
Fally Ipupa, one of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s most celebrated musicians, performed an emotional song in which he sang, “Kenya, Congo (DRC), inasimama na wewe” meaning Kenya and Congo stand with you. He went on, “Raila Odinga, tuko pamoja na Kenya, Congo inalia na wewe” Raila Odinga, we are with Kenya, Congo is crying with you.
The Congolese star praised Raila, affectionately known as “Baba,” as a torch of peace, a voice of the people, and a son of Africa whose legacy transcends borders.
Raila Odinga, Kenya’s former Prime Minister and a key figure in African politics for more than four decades, passed away on October 15, 2025, in India. He was laid to rest on October 19 in a private family ceremony in Bondo, Siaya County, following a state funeral attended by African dignitaries including President William Ruto, Uhuru Kenyatta, and Olusegun Obasanjo.
Ipupa’s tribute joined a wave of musical homages across East Africa. Tanzanian stars Diamond Platnumz, Mbosso, and Zuchu released “Ulale Salama Raila Odinga,” while Christina Shusho’s gospel track “Pumzika Baba” honored Raila’s lifelong fight for democracy.
From Nairobi to Kinshasa, Africa continues to celebrate the enduring spirit of a man many hailed as a true Pan-African visionary.
