Excitement filled Uhuru Park early Friday morning as thousands of delegates of the Wiper Democratic Movement converged for the much-anticipated National Delegates Congress (NDC). The event, seen as a defining moment for the party, is expected to shape Wiper’s strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.
By dawn, the park had turned into a sea of blue as delegates from across the country streamed in, waving flags and chanting party slogans. The atmosphere was electric a reflection of renewed hope among supporters who dubbed the gathering the “rebirth of Wiper.”
Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, now one of the most visible figures in the opposition, is expected to deliver a keynote address outlining Wiper’s new political direction. Insiders say his speech will call for greater unity among opposition parties to mount a formidable challenge against President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
The congress agenda includes reviewing the Wiper Patriotic Front Constitution, deliberating on a possible name change to reflect a broader national identity, and adopting new strategies to strengthen grassroots mobilisation. Delegates will also receive reports from the National Executive Council and approve resolutions to guide the party’s reorganisation.
“This is not just another meeting it’s about reorganisation, rejuvenation, and readiness,” said one senior delegate. “Kalonzo is positioning Wiper to play a central role in uniting the opposition and offering Kenyans a viable alternative in 2027.”
Political analysts view the Wiper NDC as both a show of internal strength and an opening act in the larger opposition realignment. Talks are already underway among leaders from Azimio la Umoja, KANU, and other parties to form a broad-based coalition ahead of the next polls with Kalonzo emerging as a key unifying figure.
