Kenyan authorities have intensified their fight against drug trafficking after two major anti-narcotics operations led to the arrest of multiple suspects and the seizure of illegal drugs worth millions.
In the first incident, a Kenyan woman was dramatically arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after detectives discovered she had ingested 28 pellets of cocaine with an estimated street value of Sh3.6 million. The suspect had arrived in Nairobi from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on November 21 when she was intercepted by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) acting on precise intelligence.
According to police, the woman was quietly escorted to the ANU offices for monitoring, where she began to emit the pellets. Fourteen pellets were expelled within minutes, followed by another fourteen shortly after, bringing the total to 912.74 grams of cocaine. An X-ray scan later confirmed her stomach was clear, offering detectives conclusive evidence for prosecution.
Investigators believe the suspect was either delivering the cocaine to a local buyer or intended to transport it to another market. She is currently in custody as police prepare to arraign her in court.
In a separate but equally significant operation, ANU detectives in Mombasa seized bhang valued at approximately Sh72 million and arrested six traffickers. Acting on intelligence, officers intercepted a truck along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway before the narcotics reached local distributors.
Police discovered 50 sacks packed with long rolls of bhang wrapped in khaki paper, weighing 2,400 kilograms in total. The driver and his co-driver were arrested immediately, while three other vehicles—a Toyota Noah, Nissan Note, and Toyota Vitz—were intercepted soon after. Investigations revealed the vehicles were part of a coordinated distribution network targeting Mombasa and its surrounding areas.
All six suspects remain in custody as detectives continue to build their case. Authorities say they have heightened surveillance at all entry points as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the country.
