Police in Bungoma County have arrested 20 suspects during a coordinated operation targeting the sale and distribution of illicit alcohol and narcotic drugs in the Mteremko area of Khalaba. The crackdown, conducted on Sunday, October 26, 2025, was part of ongoing nationwide efforts to combat the production and consumption of illegal substances.
During the operation, officers recovered several contraband items, including five litres of chang’aa, 20 litres of busaa, and 20 kilograms of cannabis. The suspects were found in possession of the illegal products and were immediately taken into custody. The recovered items were also secured as evidence.
Authorities confirmed that the arrested individuals were escorted to Bungoma Police Station, where they are being processed pending their arraignment in court. The suspects are expected to face charges related to the possession, sale, and production of illicit alcohol and narcotic drugs.
Law enforcement officials commended the officers who participated in the raid for their continued dedication to eradicating the vice across the country. They reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining public health and safety by dismantling networks involved in illegal trade.

In Bomet County, a similar crackdown in Chepalungu Sub-county led to the arrest of two suspects found with chang’aa, busaa, and kangara. The suspects were taken to Chepalungu Police Station and are set to face charges in court.
Authorities continue to warn that the consumption of illicit brews and narcotics poses serious health risks and remains a significant threat to community well-being.
