A 65-year-old man, Yussuf Lalafa Buya, was shot dead at his home in Bura, Tana River County, on Wednesday, November 12, in an early-morning attack whose motive police are yet to establish.
According to authorities, unidentified men arrived at Buya’s home at dawn and called him to the door before firing at close range. He was struck four times and died instantly. Police officers later moved the body to a local mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem as investigations continue. The incident comes amid rising insecurity in parts of Tana River, with recent attacks linked to land and cattle-related disputes.
In a separate case in Kuresoi, Nakuru County, 31-year-old Mogendi Momanyi died in hospital on November 11 from injuries sustained during an assault on October 30. Police believe the attack was triggered by a personal dispute. A manhunt is underway for the suspect, who is wanted for murder.
Meanwhile, authorities in Eldama Ravine have launched a search for Stanley Koskey, a convict who escaped from prison on November 12 during breakfast. Koskey was serving an eight-year sentence for theft and unlawful possession of another person’s identity card. He also has two pending cases in Kericho courts.
In Marani, Kisii County, police are pursuing a gang of five armed men suspected to be carrying an AK-47 rifle. The gang raided a home in Metembe village on Wednesday night, firing several shots into the air before fleeing. The targeted couple suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in stable condition. The motive for the raid remains unclear.
Elsewhere, police in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, arrested two suspects linked to a series of robberies in the Olekasasi area. Residents had raised concerns over increased criminal activity, prompting intensified patrols and operations.
