Authorities in Nakuru County are investigating a shocking case after the body of an elderly woman was discovered dumped inside a borehole in Elburgon, Molo.
The victim, identified as Jerusha Machogu, had been reported missing before her body was eventually recovered on Monday. According to police, she sustained multiple head injuries believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object. The body was transferred to the mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.
Police said the family’s nanny, who lived with the couple, is missing following the incident and has since become a person of interest. The whereabouts of the woman’s husband also remain unknown, raising further suspicion as search efforts intensify.
The case unfolded when a relative, who had been trying unsuccessfully to reach the couple on the phone, visited their home. On arrival, the houseboy claimed the family had gone to church, but the relative found this suspicious and reported the matter to the police. Officers later mounted an operation that led to the discovery of the victim’s body inside the borehole. The houseboy was detained for questioning as detectives revisited the scene over two days in pursuit of leads.
The motive behind the brutal murder remains unclear. Investigators are piecing together evidence to establish what transpired and to locate both the missing nanny and the husband.
In a separate incident, detectives in Chuka, Tharaka Nithi County, launched a probe after a woman was found murdered and dumped in a farm. The deceased, identified as Fridah Karendi Mbaka, 35, was discovered half-naked with blood oozing from her mouth. Preliminary findings suggest she was assaulted and strangled.
Just days earlier, another woman, Juliet Kianda, 43, had been found dead on the banks of River Kinyuru in Kithino, Tharaka Nithi County. Police have since arrested three suspects, including her husband, in connection with her killing.
Meanwhile, in Nyamira County, police are pursuing suspects in the murder of 20-year-old Thomas Nyamongo, whose body was discovered along the roadside in Matongo on August 26, 2025. An autopsy revealed that he had suffered severe head injuries caused by a blunt object.
The spate of killings has raised alarm over rising cases of violent deaths, particularly targeting women, across different counties. Authorities have vowed to intensify investigations, bring suspects to justice, and address the growing concerns about femicides and community safety.
