A family from Kiamaiko, Nairobi, is desperately seeking assistance in locating their one-year-three-month-old son, Mohamed Abdi, who was reportedly abducted on Sunday by an unknown woman. The incident occurred after the child’s sister was allegedly given Ksh.20 by the suspect to purchase a sweet from a nearby shop. As the girl went to buy the treat, the woman took the opportunity to abduct the toddler, disappearing with him.
Despite efforts from the family, Mohamed remains missing, and they have appealed to the public to help by providing any information about his whereabouts. The family has also called on the Kenya Police Service to expedite the investigation and ensure the child’s safe return.
The case is particularly heartbreaking for the family, as another child from their extended family was abducted last year and has not been found. The repeated incidents have left the family in distress and fearing for the safety of their children.
In their appeal, the family highlighted a growing concern over child abductions and human trafficking in the country. They have urged the Kenyan government to take more stringent actions to prevent such crimes, especially in light of existing loopholes in child adoption laws. The family believes that some wealthy individuals, both locally and internationally, exploit these laws to illegally acquire children under the pretext of adoption.
Furthermore, the family called for property owners and real estate developers to consider installing CCTV cameras in residential areas as a measure to improve security and prevent incidents like this from occurring. This call to action comes at a time when authorities have repeatedly warned parents to remain vigilant, especially as schools are closed for the long holidays, a period in which cases of child abductions and trafficking tend to rise.
As the search for Mohamed continues, the family hopes that with the help of the public and the authorities, they will be able to bring their child home safely.
