Police officers have intensified their crackdown on illegal drugs, arresting two suspects in separate incidents in Migori and Eldoret. The operations, carried out on Wednesday, resulted in the recovery of a sack of cannabis sativa and 168 rolls of bhang.
In Migori County, officers intercepted a suspect transporting a sack of bhang on a motorcycle along the Migori–Kisii road. Acting on intelligence, the police flagged down the rider, searched the motorcycle, and discovered the illicit consignment hidden inside the sack. The suspect was immediately apprehended and taken into custody, with the motorcycle also detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, in Eldoret, officers from Kapsoya Police Station on patrol in the Munyaka area arrested another suspect found in possession of 168 rolls of bhang. The officers, who had been conducting routine patrols to curb rising crime in the estate, noticed suspicious behavior and decided to conduct a search. The bhang was recovered neatly packaged and ready for distribution. The suspect was escorted to the station where both he and the exhibits were booked.
Authorities have confirmed that the two suspects are being processed and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. The seized bhang has been secured as evidence to support the prosecutions.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and share information about drug trafficking networks, stressing that the illegal trade undermines community safety and fuels criminal activity. They reminded citizens that information can be shared anonymously at local police stations or through emergency hotlines.
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of narcotics in Kenya, with law enforcement agencies stepping up surveillance and community outreach to disrupt supply chains. Security officials reiterated that the fight against drugs remains a national priority, noting that such substances not only pose health risks but also contribute to broader social challenges, including crime among the youth.
With both cases under active investigation, authorities are expected to pursue the prosecution of the suspects as part of their wider campaign against the illegal drugs trade in the country.
