Police officers in Trans Nzoia County have intercepted 20 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa valued at Ksh200,000 during a routine patrol in the Sabwani area. The successful operation marks another milestone in ongoing efforts to combat the sale and distribution of illegal drugs across the country.
The patrol team encountered a suspicious blue motorcycle ferrying two pillion passengers without a visible registration plate. The officers attempted to stop the riders, but the suspects sped off toward Soymining, triggering a dramatic chase. In their attempt to escape, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and dropped a large white sack weighing about 90 kilograms.
On inspection, the sack was found to contain two cartons. Each carton carried a bale of cannabis carefully wrapped in blue plastic bags. The total weight was estimated at 20 kilograms, with a street value of approximately Ksh200,000. The consignment was immediately secured and transported to Endebess Police Station as exhibits in the ongoing investigations.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects, who managed to flee during the pursuit. Security officers in the region believe the haul was destined for distribution in nearby towns and trading centers, given the packaging and concealment method used.
The seizure underscores the seriousness with which law enforcement agencies are treating the war on drugs. Officers continue to conduct intelligence-led patrols and crackdowns in areas suspected of harboring drug traffickers and peddlers. Residents have also been encouraged to share information that could assist in dismantling the networks responsible for supplying illicit substances.
The police have reiterated their commitment to protecting communities from the harmful effects of narcotics. They emphasized that operations to rid Trans Nzoia and other counties of illegal drugs will continue without compromise, as the fight against narcotics remains a top priority in enhancing public safety.
