A boda boda rider was discovered dead in what authorities suspect to be a case of murder in his residence in Namanga Town, Kajiado County. The body, identified as that of Joseph Waithaka, was found on June 2, covered with a bed sheet inside his house under circumstances that have since sparked a police investigation.
Officers responding to the scene reported signs of foul play. Blood was seen oozing from the deceased’s nose, and he had visible injuries to his chest near the left breast and on his chin. These physical signs suggest a violent struggle or attack prior to death.
The scene inside the house raised further suspicions. It was disorganized, with clothes strewn across the floor, the bed left unmade, and cooked food still on the gas cooker. Notably, the lights in the house remained on, indicating that the death may have occurred unexpectedly or suddenly during a routine moment.
At the time of the incident, Waithaka’s wife was reportedly in Nairobi. It was she who raised the alarm after sensing something was wrong. According to police, she made a report in Mowlem, Dandora, claiming that she feared for her husband’s safety. This led authorities in Nairobi to contact a fellow boda boda rider in Namanga, asking them to check on Waithaka’s wellbeing. That visit led to the tragic discovery of his body.
Investigators are now working to determine how Waithaka’s wife suspected something had gone wrong, given that she was in a different town at the time. Her involvement in the case has led police to detain her temporarily to assist with investigations. Authorities are exploring all possibilities, including whether the woman had prior knowledge or suspicions that could help unravel the mystery behind her husband’s death.
The body of the deceased has been transferred to a local mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted. The motive for the murder remains unclear, and police have yet to make any arrests or name suspects in connection with the incident.
In a separate and equally disturbing case in Transmara, Narok County, a man was found murdered in a maize plantation in Olonchani Sub-location. His body bore bruises on both wrists and around the neck, suggesting that he may have been bound or strangled before being killed. As with the Namanga case, the motive behind the murder has not been established. The body was also taken to a nearby mortuary pending autopsy and further investigations.
In another tragic incident in Mulot, Narok County, a 22-year-old woman identified as Naomi Kones was found murdered after an apparent domestic dispute. The young woman is believed to have been strangled with a rope following an argument with her husband over when they should have children. The suspect, believed to be her husband, fled the scene immediately after the incident. Police were alerted and are now searching for him as part of an ongoing homicide investigation.
The series of violent deaths across different counties underscores a growing concern over domestic and interpersonal violence. Investigations are continuing in all three cases as police work to uncover the truth and ensure justice for the victims.
