A somber mood has engulfed Mukithi village in Baricho, Kirinyaga County, following the discovery of the body of a 28-year-old bodaboda rider, Godfrey Kinyua Nguru. His body was found hanging from a tree in what initially appeared to be a suicide. However, preliminary police investigations have since revealed a more sinister reality that Kinyua was murdered elsewhere and his body brought to the scene to stage a fake suicide.
The disturbing incident came to light on Monday when locals stumbled upon the body and alerted authorities. Police officers dispatched to the scene noted visible injuries on the victim’s right wrist and neck, signs consistent with assault rather than self-harm. His motorcycle was found abandoned roughly 200 meters from where his body was discovered, further suggesting foul play.
The village has been left in shock, with residents demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the slain rider. Detectives have since launched a probe to identify and apprehend those behind the heinous act. The body was taken to Kerugoya Referral Hospital morgue awaiting a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Elsewhere, in Kiugoine area of Nakuru County, a woman lost her life after being assaulted by her husband and his friend during a domestic dispute. The 36-year-old victim, Mary Wanjiru, reportedly got into an argument with the two men while they were walking home. The altercation escalated when they reached their home, turning violent. According to police, the men punched her in the head and chest, leaving her unconscious.
Concerned neighbors called the police after witnessing the commotion. Wanjiru was rushed to Kabatini Dispensary but was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was later moved to the mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue. The two suspects were arrested and are currently in custody, assisting police with inquiries.
In a separate case in Turkana County, a man was also arrested after his wife, 36-year-old Mercyline Ajiko, succumbed to injuries sustained during a domestic altercation. The incident occurred in Kailoseget village within the Kanamkemer area. Reports indicate that a domestic misunderstanding between the couple turned violent, resulting in Mercyline’s hospitalization. Despite efforts to save her life, she died while receiving treatment on Sunday evening.
Authorities have confirmed that the accused husband has been taken into custody as investigations into the suspected murder continue. Her body has been moved to a local mortuary for a postmortem.
The three cases underscore the growing concern over domestic and gender-based violence, as well as the need for swift justice for victims and stronger preventive measures across the country.
