A series of violent incidents have rocked different counties in Kenya, with police launching investigations into multiple deaths reported over the past two days.
In Nyamagesa village, Kisii County, the body of a 40-year-old man identified as Eric Onchomba was discovered dumped in a bush. Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the killing, although the motive behind the murder remains unclear. Authorities recovered the body on Thursday afternoon and moved it to the mortuary for autopsy and further examination.
Elsewhere, in Kapletundo village in Sotik, Bomet County, another grim discovery was made when the body of a 26-year-old man, Cyrus Kiplangat, was found in his house with visible injuries. The wounds on his kneecap, abdomen, and elbow suggested he may have been murdered elsewhere before being moved to the scene. Investigators are pursuing leads to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
In a separate case in Entasekera village, Narok County, a 30-year-old woman, Brenda Chebet, was found dead in what is suspected to be a suicide. Her body was discovered hanging from the roof of her house with a rope around her neck. The motive for the apparent suicide has yet to be determined, and police have moved the body for postmortem as investigations continue.
Mob justice also claimed several lives this week. In Matulo area, Bungoma County, two suspects accused of stealing cows were killed by angry villagers. The suspects were intercepted by elders while allegedly escorting two stolen cows. When challenged, they attempted to flee, triggering an alarm that led to their capture and lynching by a mob. The cows were later identified by the rightful owner.
A similar incident occurred in Kendubay, Homabay County, where a man suspected of attempting to break into a house was stoned to death by residents after an alarm was raised. His body was discovered by police on the roadside.
All the bodies have been moved to various mortuaries awaiting autopsies. Police have urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead hand over suspects to authorities for proper legal procedures.
