A CCTV expert, Elizabeth Njuguna, testified in the murder trial of socialite Starlet Wahu, revealing that she could not positively identify the accused, John Matara, from the footage. Njuguna presented video and still photos from the CCTV cameras at Papino Apartment, where Wahu was found murdered on January 3, 2024.
The footage shows a man, dressed in a bluish long-sleeved shirt, black cap, brown khaki trousers, and carrying a red bag, entering the building at 8:11 PM with a light-skinned woman. Later footage, recorded at 10:11 PM, depicts the same man leaving the building alone, with a white cloth around his neck. The man is also shown walking past two men on motorbikes, with what appears to be blood stains on his trousers.
Despite these details, Njuguna stated that she could not identify the individual in the footage due to the person’s face being obscured as he kept his head lowered. During cross-examination, Matara’s defense lawyer questioned the expert about the stains visible on the trousers, but Njuguna clarified that she could not confirm the nature of the stains as they appeared unclear in the footage.
The trial is expected to proceed with further testimonies from key witnesses, including a government chemist and pathologist, as the case continues to unfold.
