A Chinese national was robbed of Sh1.4 million in broad daylight in Athi River, Machakos County, on Monday. The woman, identified as Xin Xin, had withdrawn the money from a bank in Kitengela Town before getting into a cab heading towards her workplace. The incident occurred along Namanga Road near Shalom Community Hospital.
Xin had boarded a Bolt taxi driven by James Bosire Rosana, who was instructed to take her to Lukenya Park C in Athi River. According to the driver, upon reaching the Shalom interchange, a blue Mazda CX5 overtook him, blocking his car in front. Two individuals, posing as police officers, exited the vehicle. Although they were in civilian clothes, they claimed to be law enforcement officials.
One of the suspects opened the driver’s door, forcibly removed Rosana from the cab, and escorted him to their vehicle. They drove him towards the Sunset Boulevard area, where they abandoned him by the roadside before fleeing with the victim’s money.
Rosana managed to call Xin and inquire about her whereabouts. Upon reaching her company at Lukenya Park, he was shocked to learn that she had been robbed of the Sh1.4 million she had withdrawn to manage company finances. Following the report, officers from Athi River Police Station, along with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), visited the scene and confirmed the robbery.
At the time of reporting, no arrests had been made, and investigations were ongoing. This incident comes just a day after another reported crime in Syokimau, Mlolongo, where a man was robbed of his belongings following a break-in at his house. Police are investigating both incidents, which are believed to be related to increasing crime in the area.
