A Kibera court has ordered the detention of Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi for 14 days to allow the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to complete their investigation into the murder of GSU officer Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka. Musyimi is considered a person of interest in the killing, which took place on Monday, October 13, 2025, along Dennis Pritt Road near the State House gate D.
Musyimi was apprehended while armed with a bow and arrows, which he had concealed in a blue sack. He was posing as a street dweller when he approached a GSU officer manning a search barrier. According to investigations, Musyimi attacked the officer by shooting him with an arrow to the chest, causing severe bleeding. The officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for emergency treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
In an affidavit submitted to the court, Officer Bashir Boya from the Kilimani DCI confirmed that Musyimi’s actions directly led to the officer’s death. The court was informed that Musyimi has no known permanent residence and his workplace remains unidentified, which led the prosecution to argue that he poses a flight risk. As such, the prosecution requested a 14-day detention period to conclude their investigations into the murder.
The court granted the request, with Kibera Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi ruling that Musyimi should be detained at the Kilimani Police Station. Additionally, Magistrate Njagi ordered that Musyimi undergo a mental health assessment at KNH to determine if he is fit to stand trial. The court emphasized the necessity of the custodial order to allow law enforcement to complete their probe into the case.
Musyimi’s detention follows a tragic and alarming incident, highlighting the risks faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty. The case continues to unfold as investigators seek further details about Musyimi’s actions and motives. The 14-day detention period will be crucial in determining whether additional charges will be filed
