A Kibera court has ordered the detention of a man suspected to be involved in the murder of a General Service Unit (GSU) officer attached to State House. The suspect, identified as Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi, will remain in custody for 14 days to allow investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to complete their probe.
The murder incident occurred on Monday, October 13, 2025, when officer Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka was fatally attacked while manning a security barrier along Dennis Pritt Road near State House Gate D. Musyimi was reportedly arrested near the same area while allegedly posing as a street dweller carrying a blue sack that contained a bow and arrows.
According to details presented in court, the suspect advanced toward the GSU officer and shot him with an arrow, striking his left chest and causing severe bleeding. Fellow officers and first responders rushed the injured officer to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for emergency treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing medical care.
Investigating officer Bashir Boya from the Kilimani DCI office informed the court that the suspect’s lack of a known residence or place of employment makes him a flight risk. He emphasized the need for custodial detention to enable detectives to complete forensic analysis, record witness statements, and conduct further inquiries into the motive behind the attack.
Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi ruled in favor of the prosecution’s application, granting a 14-day detention period at Kilimani Police Station. The court also directed that the suspect be taken for a mental evaluation at KNH to determine whether he is fit to stand trial once investigations are concluded.
In her ruling, Magistrate Njagi noted that the court was convinced, based on the evidence presented under oath, that continued detention was necessary for the integrity of the ongoing investigation. The court further indicated that releasing the suspect at this stage would compromise the process given the gravity of the offense and the suspect’s unknown background.
The incident has sparked concern over the safety of officers manning critical security installations within the capital. Authorities are expected to release more details once investigations are finalized, as police work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the killing of the State House GSU officer.
