A chilling night of violence has rocked three Kenyan counties Kehancha, Bungoma, and Laikipia leaving three people dead in separate attacks that have reignited public concern over the country’s escalating wave of violent crime.
In Kehancha, Migori County, panic gripped residents after 38-year-old David Masero Sabai was shot dead by a gang armed with an AK-47 rifle and a panga. The attack occurred on Monday night as Sabai waited to be served at a local shop. Police reports indicate that two assailants stormed the shop, ordering the attendant and customers to lie down.
Eyewitnesses said Sabai was shot in the chest as he pleaded for his life. In the ensuing chaos exacerbated by a power blackout—the shop owner managed to escape unhurt. Surprisingly, the attackers fled the scene without taking any money or valuables. Detectives later recovered a 7.62mm spent cartridge from the site.
Police have launched a manhunt for the gang, linking the incident to a recent spike in armed robberies targeting small businesses in the area.
Meanwhile, in Tongaren, Bungoma County, a violent altercation turned fatal when 24-year-old Yussuf Wanjala died after a neighbour allegedly chopped off his hand. According to police, Wanjala bled to death while receiving treatment in hospital. The suspect was later arrested in Simama Village and is expected to face murder charges.
In Rumuruti, Laikipia County, another tragedy unfolded when 35-year-old Tabitha Kendi was stabbed to death while walking home with her husband early Tuesday. The attackers fled without stealing anything, leaving detectives puzzled over the motive.
Authorities have deployed security teams across the affected counties as investigations continue. Residents, however, say fear is mounting as cases of violent crime become increasingly common, with many calling for enhanced night patrols and stricter gun control enforcement.
