In a major intelligence-led operation, DCI officers have arrested six robbery suspects in Meru and recovered two Falcon pistols along with live ammunition. The crackdown, conducted by detectives from Mutuati and Igembe North Sub-Counties, follows weeks of targeted surveillance.
The operation, which took place on Monday, November 18, saw DCI officers storming the suspects’ hideouts, arresting them before they could evade the law. Apart from firearms, the detectives recovered two numberless motorcycles, stripped motorcycle parts, and other incriminating evidence, highlighting the extent of the gang’s criminal activities.
Ballistics experts from DCI Headquarters in Nairobi have begun a forensic analysis of the firearms to establish any links to previous crimes. The six suspects are currently in police custody and are set to appear in court later today for arraignment.
The DCI has issued a stern warning to other criminal gangs, emphasizing that their days are numbered. Officers also revealed plans to intensify operations during the festive season and urged the public to remain vigilant.
This arrest comes less than a week after the DCI issued a public advisory warning Kenyans about a rise in robbery cases linked to online dating encounters. According to the statement issued on Thursday, November 13, victims are often lured through dating apps or social media under the pretext of friendship or romance, only to be ambushed, robbed, or assaulted.
The recent arrests underscore the DCI’s commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring public safety. Authorities continue to urge citizens to report suspicious activities and exercise caution when engaging with strangers online.
With the festive season approaching, the DCI’s ongoing crackdown serves as a reminder that law enforcement agencies are stepping up efforts to protect communities and deter criminal gangs from operating with impunity.
