Detectives investigating the alleged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi have arrested a close associate of the legislator in connection with the incident. The suspect, identified as Cyrus Kieru Muhia, was apprehended on the evening of Tuesday, May 27. He is believed to be the owner of a silver Subaru Forester implicated in the reported abduction.
Authorities say the vehicle, which bore civilian registration plates, was seen in video footage allegedly blocking the MP shortly before he disappeared. The video has since been under scrutiny by investigators who are examining its authenticity and relevance to the case.
According to law enforcement officials, Muhia is currently in custody at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters in Nairobi. He is being interrogated to clarify his involvement in the unfolding matter. Detectives are particularly interested in determining whether he played an active role in what has been described as a carefully planned operation.
The incident reportedly occurred outside a church in Mugutha, located in Kiambu County, on Sunday. Witnesses claimed that MP Koimburi was accosted by unidentified individuals and bundled into a waiting vehicle. The vehicle is believed to be the same silver Subaru Forester owned by the arrested suspect.
Koimburi was found a day later, on Monday, abandoned in a coffee plantation within Kiambu. The circumstances surrounding his reappearance have added to the intrigue, as questions linger over the motive and identities of the individuals involved in the incident.
Authorities have stated that so far, five individuals have been interviewed in connection with the case. These interviews are part of broader efforts to gather evidence and establish a clearer picture of what transpired during the MP’s brief disappearance. Several more individuals are expected to provide statements, including MP Koimburi himself. However, investigators noted that initial attempts to reach the MP were hindered by objections from his family, who have reportedly expressed concern over his condition following the ordeal.
Investigators are keen to determine whether the incident was politically motivated or if there were personal grievances involved. The arrest of Muhia marks a significant step in the inquiry, as he is considered a key figure who may unlock further leads.
The incident has generated significant public interest and debate, particularly given Koimburi’s political profile and the unusual nature of the alleged abduction. Questions have also been raised in some quarters about the authenticity of the incident, with speculation that it may have been staged. However, law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation.
In a statement, police emphasized that the case is being handled with the utmost professionalism. They reassured the public that all angles are being explored and that the truth will ultimately be established through diligent investigative work.
As the probe continues, the spotlight remains firmly on the developments surrounding Koimburi’s brief disappearance, with many awaiting further updates on the suspect’s interrogation and the eventual interview with the MP himself. The unfolding events have underscored the need for clarity in a case that has stirred both concern and skepticism across the country.
