The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has initiated an intensive manhunt for a man accused of brutally murdering his wife and two young daughters in the Yare area of Samburu County late last month.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Wycliffe Otieno Odero, is alleged to have committed the horrific crime on the night of September 27, 2025, after returning home intoxicated. According to investigators, Odero fatally stabbed his wife, Ann Njeri Atheera, during a violent altercation before turning on their two daughters — Natalia Nyambura, aged six, and Tyra Jones, aged four — while they slept.
The attack reportedly took place in their rented house along the Maralal–Nyahururu road, where the family had been living. In a fit of rage, the suspect inflicted multiple stab wounds on his wife before slitting the throats of his sleeping children, killing them instantly. Neighbors are said to have discovered the gruesome scene the following morning, prompting an immediate alert to the authorities.
Following the murders, Odero fled the scene and has remained on the run since. Despite numerous efforts by the police, he has successfully evaded capture, leading the DCI to expand its search efforts across several counties. Detectives believe he may be hiding with acquaintances or relatives and are working closely with local communities to gather leads.
The DCI has called on members of the public to assist in locating the suspect, urging anyone with credible information to report to the nearest police station or share tips anonymously through the #FichuaKwaDCI platform. The agency has also circulated the suspect’s image to aid in identification, stressing that any information, however small, could be crucial in bringing him to justice.
Authorities have condemned the brutal act, describing it as a chilling case of domestic violence that underscores the need for stronger community awareness and early intervention mechanisms in family disputes.
As the manhunt continues, security agencies remain on high alert across Samburu and neighboring regions. The DCI has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the suspect faces justice for the heinous killings, urging Kenyans to cooperate in their quest to apprehend him and prevent further tragedy.
