A senior official working at the Ministry of Lands has been arrested after being found in possession of government-issued items, including military badges, ammunition, and multiple land-related documents. The arrest was made while the suspect was in transit along the Garissa-Lamu road in a black Toyota Prado bearing registration number KDQ 876Y.
Acting on a credible tip-off, detectives from Garissa Sub-County launched an operation that led to the interception of the vehicle. Upon conducting a preliminary search, they recovered three rounds of 9mm Colt ammunition, six personal cheques each worth Ksh500,000, military badges of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) bearing the rank of captain, and four mobile phones.
The investigation extended beyond the vehicle. The suspect’s residence in Madogo was also searched with the assistance of his brother. Officers discovered five live rounds of 7.62 x 51 ammunition, thirty blank title deeds, a lease certificate, and several other documents linked to land transactions. These findings suggest possible involvement in land fraud or illegal land dealings, raising serious concerns about the integrity of certain public officials within the Lands Ministry.
The operation continued to the suspect’s additional residences in Thika and Ruiru, where detectives uncovered more damning evidence. Among the items recovered were an original title deed for land located in Kajiado, an application for consent from the Lands Control Board, and other assorted land ownership documents. The widespread nature of the materials recovered points to a potential syndicate or personal involvement in a wider land scam operation.
The suspect remains in custody as detectives finalize investigations ahead of his expected court appearance. The incident underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle internal networks of corruption and safeguard national security, especially regarding sensitive government documentation and military insignia falling into the wrong hands.
Authorities are now intensifying investigations to determine whether the suspect acted alone or is part of a larger network involved in illicit land transactions and possible impersonation of military personnel.
