A tragic incident in Ringa, Homa Bay County, has left a family and community in shock after a 30-year-old man lost his life following a violent confrontation with his brother.
The victim, identified as Lawrence Obonyo, was found lying lifeless in the sitting room of their home after the altercation turned fatal. The dispute is reported to have stemmed from long-standing disagreements over land ownership. According to police, the incident occurred on Friday morning.
The assailant fled the scene immediately after the fight as angry villagers attempted to confront him. Law enforcement officers have since launched a manhunt, and efforts to trace him are ongoing. Obonyo’s body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other formal procedures.
This case is one of several recent tragedies reported across different counties. In Ndiru, Ndhiwa within Homa Bay County, the body of a 32-year-old woman, Judith Moraa, was discovered on a footpath. She was found naked with visible bruises on her buttocks, thighs, and arms, indicating that she may have been attacked before being left to die. Authorities confirmed that investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators. Her body was taken to the mortuary for postmortem examination.
In Nandi County, another incident was recorded in Kapko village, where Robert Ouko Obonyo was attacked by unknown assailants while returning home from work. He sustained multiple injuries and collapsed by the roadside, where his lifeless body was discovered. Police are yet to establish the motive behind the attack, and no suspects have been arrested so far.
Elsewhere in Bungoma County, tragedy struck in Kiungani, Kimilili, when a 16-year-old girl lost her life after falling into a 65-foot deep borehole in Wamuini “B” village. Reports indicate that she slipped and fell accidentally. Her body was later retrieved and moved to the mortuary. A man who was with her at the time of the incident has been arrested as part of ongoing investigations.
These incidents highlight the growing concerns around violence, family disputes, and safety in rural communities. Authorities continue to urge residents to seek peaceful conflict resolution methods and to remain vigilant against criminal activities that threaten community stability.
