Police in Bungoma County are investigating the death of a 70-year-old man whose decomposed body was found inside his house in Sirisia after a suspected murder. The incident has left residents in shock as investigators seek to uncover the motive behind the brutal killing.
The deceased, identified as Juma Wanjekeche, was reportedly found lying in a pool of blood inside his semi-permanent house. Preliminary investigations indicated that his throat had been slit, suggesting foul play.
Residents told authorities that Wanjekeche was last seen alive on October 26, and his body was discovered two days later after neighbours raised alarm over a strong smell coming from his home. Officers from Sirisia Police Station who visited the scene confirmed that the body had already started decomposing.
Police moved the body to the mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue. No arrests had been made by the time of reporting, but detectives said they are following leads that could help identify the perpetrators.
In a separate case, police in Shauri slums, Embu County, are investigating the death of a 35-year-old man, identified as Mugendi Ciangai, whose body was discovered in his single-room house under unclear circumstances. Neighbours reported seeing blood trickling from his room, prompting them to check. They found Ciangai’s lifeless body on the floor, partly covered with a mattress.
The body was also in a state of decomposition and was moved to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Detectives in Embu have launched investigations into the case.
Meanwhile, in Magadi, Kajiado County, police are pursuing a suspect linked to the killing of a 28-year-old woman, Magret Muriithi, who was attacked while working on her farm. The suspect fled after the assault, and police have launched a manhunt to track him down.
Police statistics show that murder cases are on the rise across Kenya, with at least eight incidents reported daily. Most are linked to domestic conflicts, land disputes, and love-related feuds, prompting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to deploy a special homicide team to handle the growing number of cases.
