Detectives are investigating the brutal murder of an 11-year-old girl whose decomposed body was discovered in a thicket in Mariba, Nyamira County.
The girl had been missing since August 18, when she disappeared from her home area. Her family reported the matter to the police, and a search had been underway for days. On Monday evening, her remains were found dumped in a swampy area about a kilometre from her parents’ home.
According to investigators, the body was already decomposed when it was discovered, suggesting that she may have been killed shortly after she went missing. The motive for the killing remains unclear, and no arrests have been made so far. The body was moved to the mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to help determine the exact cause of death.
The tragic discovery has shocked residents of Nyamira, who are calling for swift action to bring those responsible to justice. Police have assured that investigations are ongoing and that they are pursuing crucial leads to solve the case.
Elsewhere in Migori County, another murder case was reported after the body of a 32-year-old woman was found inside her house in Kanyamkago village, Uriri. The woman, identified as Moureen Auma, had bruises on her neck and is believed to have been strangled. Authorities moved her body to the mortuary pending autopsy as investigations continue to establish the motive.
In a separate incident in Nyali, Mombasa County, a 45-year-old man lost his life in what police suspect to be a love triangle dispute. The man, identified as Dickson Kazungu, was attacked with stones by another man believed to have been his love rival. Reports indicate that the attacker, who was once married to the woman at the centre of the dispute, trailed Kazungu to Nyali First Avenue, where he confronted and fatally assaulted him.
Kazungu sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to hospital but succumbed while undergoing treatment. The assailant fled the scene and is currently being sought by police. Meanwhile, the woman involved in the saga has been detained for questioning as part of the murder investigation.
Security agencies have raised concerns over the rising number of murder cases across the country. Many cases remain under investigation, with police urging communities to assist by providing information that could help in tracking down suspects and preventing further tragedies.
