Detectives in Siaya County have opened investigations after the decomposed body of a woman was discovered on a farm in Yala, Gem constituency. The grim discovery was made by a local resident who had gone to cut grass for his cows and was drawn to the scene by a foul smell.
Alongside the body, police recovered a bag containing clothes, sandals, and a mobile phone. The remains were transferred to the local mortuary for an autopsy as officers work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing. The motive remains unclear.
This case adds to a troubling pattern of violent deaths reported across Western Kenya over the weekend.
In Kamukuywa, Bungoma County, a 79-year-old man identified as Isaiah Simiyu was found murdered inside his home. His body was discovered lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts on his face. Neighbors said Simiyu had last been seen alive on September 4, only for his remains to be found days later. Investigators have not established a motive, and the body was taken to the mortuary for postmortem examination.
Elsewhere in Metamaywa, Keroka, Nyamira County, another man was killed and his body dumped by the roadside. Police said the victim, who had not been identified at the time of discovery, was found half-naked with severe head injuries. His remains were collected and transferred for identification and autopsy.
In Magena, Kisii County, the body of 35-year-old lorry conductor Albert Okemwa was discovered near Mogonga Shopping Centre. He had sustained deep cut wounds on his forehead and jaw. According to police reports, Okemwa had traveled with his driver from Transmara and parked at a petrol station in Mogonga. The driver claimed he left him inside the truck overnight, only to find him missing the following morning. Hours later, his body was located close to the truck. The driver was detained for questioning as detectives pursue leads.
Police in all four counties have confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Autopsies will be carried out to establish the exact causes of death as the region grapples with rising incidents of violent killings.
