Detectives have arrested three suspects believed to be behind a string of robberies targeting wine and spirits shops across Nairobi and its outskirts. The arrests followed an extensive operation carried out by officers drawn from both Nairobi and Kiambu, who had been tracking the gang for weeks.
According to the authorities, the arrests were made after a carefully coordinated surveillance and intelligence-led operation. Acting on a tip-off, detectives launched a manhunt that led to the capture of two suspects in Ngara. The pair, known for staging violent night raids, attempted to escape but were swiftly subdued. In the process, they abandoned a black Toyota Harrier, which investigators seized as crucial evidence to aid the ongoing probe.
Following the Ngara arrests, the detectives proceeded to Njiru Makongeni, where another suspect was apprehended. During the operation, officers recovered a black Toyota Noah believed to have been used to transport stolen liquor from targeted shops. This breakthrough marked a significant step in dismantling the gang that had been terrorizing shop owners in recent weeks.
Detectives further revealed that a manhunt is underway for another key suspect thought to be the mastermind of the coordinated theft ring. The operation also led to the discovery of a large cache of evidence linking the suspects to multiple break-ins. Scattered around one of the suspect’s compounds were empty cartons of expensive liquor, believed to have been looted from various establishments.
In a surprising twist, officers also recovered a herd of 25 bulls suspected to be stolen and hidden at a secondary residence in Njiru. The animals were transported to Ruai Police Station as investigations continue to trace their rightful owners.
Authorities are urging members of the public to volunteer any information that could assist in apprehending more members of the criminal network. Detectives noted that public cooperation is vital in curbing the spate of robberies that have recently plagued business owners in the city and surrounding areas.
The arrests mark a significant milestone in efforts to restore safety and confidence among business operators in Nairobi’s retail liquor trade. Investigations remain ongoing as police continue to pursue the remaining suspects linked to the syndicate.
