Detectives have arrested three suspects believed to be part of a notorious gang responsible for a series of robberies targeting wines and spirits shops across Nairobi and its outskirts. The operation, which was executed with precision and coordination between detectives from Nairobi and Kiambu counties, marked the culmination of days of intense surveillance and intelligence gathering.
The suspects, known for their daring and well-coordinated attacks, had been on the radar of law enforcement agencies following multiple reports of violent robberies. Acting on a credible tip-off, detectives launched a swift operation in Ngara, where they managed to corner two key suspects. The duo reportedly attempted to evade arrest but were swiftly subdued.
In the process, the suspects abandoned a black Toyota Harrier during their failed escape attempt. The vehicle was seized by investigators and is expected to serve as critical evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Following the successful Ngara operation, detectives extended the raid to Njiru Makongeni, where another suspect linked to the gang was apprehended. At the scene, officers recovered a Toyota Noah believed to have been used to transport stolen liquor. The car’s interior reportedly still reeked of alcohol, pointing to its direct use in the robberies.
The operation then moved to Mugutha in Ruiru, where detectives targeted the suspected hideout of the gang’s mastermind, who remains at large. Armed with a search warrant, they stormed the compound and made significant recoveries, including two car seats from the seized Noah, break-in tools, several mobile phones, a number plate, and a hoodie identical to the one captured in CCTV footage during a recent heist.
Scattered around the compound were empty cartons of expensive liquor, believed to be part of the stolen goods. In a surprising twist, detectives also discovered 25 bulls within the compound, suspected to have been stolen and kept hidden for later sale. The animals were escorted to Ruai Police Station as investigations to locate their rightful owners continue.
Authorities have since intensified the hunt for the gang’s ringleader, believed to be the mastermind behind the coordinated robberies. Investigators are confident that the latest arrests and evidence recovered will lead to the full dismantling of the violent syndicate that has been preying on business owners in the city and neighboring counties.
