Detectives are currently investigating at least nine murder cases that were reported across the country on Wednesday, June 11, highlighting an alarming surge in homicide cases. Authorities have noted that an average of eight murder cases are being reported daily, raising serious concerns about public safety and unresolved crimes.
Some of the killings have been linked to land disputes, while others stem from domestic disagreements or robbery. The disturbing nature and frequency of these incidents have sparked renewed calls for more effective law enforcement and conflict resolution mechanisms.
The first incident took place in Kakamega’s Kakunga area, where the body of a 25-year-old man, Brian Chemoi, was discovered abandoned by the roadside. The body showed signs of extreme brutality the left ear and eye had been gouged out, the tongue had been severed, and there was a deep cut on the forehead. The remains were found just meters away from the Kakamega-Malava highway.
In Olasit village, located in Magadi, Kajiado County, another mutilated body was discovered in a thicket. Wild animals had partially eaten the corpse before it was found, and investigators suspect foul play. A murder investigation has been launched into the incident.
Still in Kajiado County, two men were found dead on a farm in Ngama village, Masimba area. The bodies were discovered in close proximity one inside a tent and the other lying a few meters away. The victims, identified as Caleb Munyoki and Elijah Kiombi, had sustained deep head wounds. Investigators revealed that three workers were present on the farm on June 10, the day before the bodies were discovered. The third worker is now missing, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
Another incident was reported in the Waitaluk area of Trans Nzoia County. A 20-year-old man, Mark Kangala, was fatally stabbed during an altercation with another individual. The motive behind the confrontation has not yet been established.
In Kisii County’s Itumbe area, within Sameta sub-county, a 31-year-old man named Stephen Nyabengi was also stabbed during a disagreement with a friend. Authorities have opened a case to determine the circumstances leading to the fatal conflict.
In Kamwangi, Gatundu, Kiambu County, a woman died under mysterious circumstances. The victim, 23-year-old Jane Mungai, reportedly fell in her home and suffered fatal injuries, according to her boyfriend. However, police are treating the case as a potential murder pending the outcome of a postmortem examination.
In Siaya County, a man was found dead on Uhanya beach in Usenge. The body of 35-year-old Fredrick Owiti had a visible injury at the back of the head, indicating possible foul play.
The final case was recorded in Kuria, Migori County, where the body of a 27-year-old bodaboda rider, Sabato Robi, was discovered in a bush. He had sustained a deep cut on the left side of his head, and his motorcycle had been stolen, suggesting a robbery-related murder.
Authorities are continuing to investigate each of these cases, and no arrests have been made in connection with the killings so far. The disturbing trend highlights the growing need for improved security and preventive strategies to stem the wave of violence.
