Authorities are investigating a spate of violent deaths reported across several counties over the weekend, sparking concerns over a growing trend of insecurity. The incidents, recorded in Nakuru, Nandi, Kisii, Tana River, and Mombasa, point to different forms of violence ranging from domestic disputes to armed robbery.
In Kuresoi, Nakuru County, the body of a 32-year-old man, identified as Dominic Kirui, was discovered in a thicket in the Sirikwa area. According to police, he had visible injuries on his head and hands believed to have been inflicted with a blunt object. Detectives are pursuing leads to establish the motive behind the killing as the body awaits a post-mortem examination.
In Chesumei, Nandi County, a domestic quarrel turned fatal when a man attacked his elder brother. The victim, 40-year-old Edwin Chepkwony, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. The suspect later surrendered to authorities and is expected to face murder charges once investigations are complete.
Kisii County also recorded tragedy when residents of Gesusu found 35-year-old Samuel Magori Miyogo unconscious on a footpath near his home. Locals rushed him back to his house, but he later died. His body, which had blood oozing from his left ear, was moved to the mortuary as detectives opened investigations into the circumstances of his death.
In Madogo, Tana River County, the body of 56-year-old Ibrahim Muhamud was discovered with deep cuts on his wrist. Investigators traced blood stains to a nearby house, suggesting the murder occurred indoors before the body was dumped along the road. Police have launched a manhunt for suspects linked to the killing.
Meanwhile, in Nyali, Mombasa County, a suspected robber was lynched by an irate mob after attempting to steal from a 74-year-old woman. The victim had parked her car near a petrol station when three men on a motorcycle accosted her. One of them sprayed her face with a chemical substance before grabbing her handbag containing cash and valuables. Members of the public quickly responded to her screams, overpowering the suspects. One was beaten to death, while two others were arrested and handed over to police. Their motorcycle was vandalized, and officers recovered a chemical bottle now under forensic analysis.
Security officials have expressed concern over the rising cases of violent crime across different regions, even as intensified operations continue to restore public safety.
