The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday morning conducted simultaneous raids at the home and offices of Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo and several senior county officials in connection with a Ksh382 million corruption probe.
The coordinated operation targeted multiple locations across Nyamira, Kisii, and Nairobi counties, as detectives sought to recover key documents and digital evidence linked to alleged procurement irregularities and misuse of public funds.
According to EACC sources, the investigation centers on a Ksh328 million tender awarded for the construction of a Nyamira County Government building. The contractor reportedly received payments far exceeding the value of work completed, raising concerns over inflated costs and poor value for money.
Officials from critical departments — including housing and physical planning, finance, roads, and public works — were also targeted in the raids.
In addition, Governor Nyaribo is accused of irregularly authorizing payments to himself totaling Ksh18 million, comprising Ksh5 million in voluntary payments and Ksh13 million as reimbursement for house allowances.
Governors Under EACC Radar
The Nyamira raid adds to a growing list of graft investigations targeting county bosses. In August, EACC Chairperson David Oginde disclosed that nine governors are under active investigation over corruption-related offenses, warning that the scale of graft in devolved units is “alarming.”
