Residents of Muthiga Village in Salgaa, Rongai, Nakuru County, are in deep shock after an elderly couple was found brutally murdered in their home. The victims, identified as 90-year-old Joseph Kihiti and his 63-year-old wife, Bethrosa Wanjiku, were discovered dead under horrifying circumstances, sending waves of fear throughout the quiet farming community.
According to local authorities, Kihiti’s body was found lying on a bed inside their house, while his wife’s body was discovered in the living room. Preliminary investigations suggest that both victims were subjected to extreme violence before being killed.
The grim discovery was made after members of the couple’s local church grew concerned when the two failed to attend Sunday service—something they never missed. When church members and residents visited their home to check on them, they found the front door locked. However, upon going around to the back, they were met with a pool of blood and an open door, confirming their worst fears.
Police and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Rongai immediately launched an inquiry into the double homicide. Early reports indicate that the murders may have occurred on Friday evening, though the bodies remained undiscovered for two days.
What has left investigators puzzled is that nothing appears to have been stolen from the home. The couple’s belongings were intact, suggesting that robbery may not have been the motive. Authorities are now exploring other possible leads, including personal or land-related disputes, though neighbors insist that the couple had no known enemies or disagreements.
The late Joseph Kihiti and his wife were described by residents as humble, God-fearing people who lived quietly on their farm. Their deaths have left the community devastated and demanding justice.
Their son, John Njogu, expressed deep anguish and disbelief over the killings, questioning why anyone would target his elderly parents. “Why would anyone think of taking my father’s life at such an age?” he lamented.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to the Nakuru County Mortuary for postmortem examinations as investigations continue. Police have appealed to the public for any information that could help identify and apprehend the suspects behind the gruesome murders.
Authorities have also increased patrols in the area to restore calm and assure residents of their safety as the hunt for the killers intensifies.
