A man posing as a police officer has been apprehended in Kirinyaga County in a well-coordinated operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation carried out by officers based in Kirinyaga East Sub-County.
The suspect was identified and arrested after detectives received reports about his suspicious activities. Upon interrogation, the suspect led investigators to his residence located in the Makongeni area of Thika Constituency, Kiambu County. At the premises, detectives conducted a thorough search and uncovered a range of items believed to be government property, raising concerns over how he had acquired them and what he might have used them for.
The search yielded a number of police-issued paraphernalia, including two police smoke jackets, two jungle-green trousers commonly worn by law enforcement officers, a green prison lanyard, and desert military boots. Also recovered was a replica firearm, a potentially dangerous item that may have been used to intimidate or deceive unsuspecting members of the public. The haul suggests that the impersonator went to considerable lengths to present himself as an authentic member of the police force.
The presence of such items in private possession has heightened concerns about the misuse of government-issued gear and the risk it poses to public safety. It remains unclear how long the suspect had been masquerading as a police officer, or whether he may have used his fake identity to commit crimes or obtain privileges under false pretenses.
Detectives handling the case confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody along with the recovered items. He is undergoing processing as authorities prepare to present him in court. The seriousness of the case has prompted an extended investigation aimed at uncovering the full scale of his actions and whether he was part of a wider network engaged in impersonation or other illicit activities.
Investigators are also looking into the source of the government-issued gear to establish whether it was stolen, lost, or obtained through collusion. The impersonation of law enforcement officers poses a significant threat to the integrity of the police service and public trust, and the outcome of the case could prompt calls for stricter control over police uniforms and equipment.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to rooting out individuals who undermine the credibility of security agencies by impersonating officers and potentially compromising public safety. The case remains under active investigation as the suspect awaits arraignment.
