The family of a man who had been missing for over a month is accusing the police of foul play after his body was discovered at Mama Lucy Mortuary in Nairobi. The deceased, identified as Charles Ndung’u Njuguna, was reported missing on September 2, 2025. His disappearance had left his family in distress, as they searched relentlessly for answers.
According to the police, Njuguna was a victim of mob injustice after being caught attempting to steal a motorbike in Kayole’s Saika Estate. They claim he was cornered by an angry crowd, beaten, and later rescued by police officers before being taken to Mama Lucy Hospital by an unknown person. A motorbike without registration plates was allegedly recovered at the scene, while its rider reportedly fled.
However, Njuguna’s family strongly disputes this version of events. They insist that he was arrested by police officers on the night of his disappearance and believe he was beaten to death while in custody. His mother, Veronica Wanjiku, expressed deep anguish, saying that the family’s efforts to locate him had been fruitless until they identified his body at the mortuary.
The family’s suspicions intensified after media outlets highlighted Njuguna’s disappearance, prompting a call notifying them of a body matching his description. Their fears were confirmed when they positively identified him at Mama Lucy Mortuary.
Police officials, led by the Njiru Police Commander, maintain that their reports indicate Njuguna’s death resulted from mob violence. They also stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to his death. Witnesses who were allegedly present during the incident have declined to comment, raising further questions about what really happened that night.
The body of the deceased is currently preserved at Mama Lucy Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death. Detectives from Kayole Police Station are said to be pursuing various leads, while the family continues to demand justice and accountability.
As investigations continue, Njuguna’s death adds to growing public concern over cases of alleged police misconduct and unresolved deaths of missing persons in Nairobi. His family is now calling for an independent probe to uncover the truth and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
